These three days were flat out behind the wheel of the dusty old Delica.  We had home visitations and the schedule was tight.  Dropping off, picking up, dropping off, picking up all day for three days.  We did manage also to have a birthday celebration for young Moses as it was his birthday on the Saturday.

If you read my blog regularly you would have noticed that I missed for half a month – sorry about that.  Things have been a bit busy, but there has not been too much to report on.  Mainly just everyday running of things, administration, refining of the way we do things and waiting for the go ahead to build.  So I will do a few posts of photos to try and make up for it.

To start, here are a couple of Andrew pulling faces:

Time waits for no man, clock starts for David!

clock-repairs-apr-09

I made the small mistake of dropping Kathryn’s bedside clock so that it no longer worked, then I made the bigger mistake of saying that I can fix it!!!  I managed to get it to pieces and back again, though when I put it back together it seemed to be a bit too difficult to close, but I managed.  I slipped in the battery and hey it was working, until I put the face back on and suddenly realised that it was going the wrong way!!!  Back to square one.  I discovered that I had put it back starting in the wrong direction and bent a metal arm that causes the clock to turn – this was making it go the wrong way.  So I straightened it as much as possible and tried putting it all back again.  It was now going the correct way, until it was bumped.  Though if you forced it with your finger to go the correct way it went.  In Australia, I wouldn’t have even bothered trying to fix it – just go and buy a new one, but here you learn to live with little things that go funny, and now Kathryn’s bedside clock is another of those things!!!

Not sure if it was a good thing or not, but I was the one to share in church today.  In true Kabale style it rained and did not stop until late afternoon.  We delayed getting to church but because the rain did not let up we left in the middle of a down pour and as there was no PA System at church and there is a tin roof, my voice got a work out.

Today we popped up to Little England – Pam and Eddie Ward’s place.  Pam was heading back to England for five weeks with her mother who has been here for three months.  It was great to meet Pam’s mother.

Today Akanyijuka had a visit from Tine, a Danish girl that has been in Kabale for almost three months on an internship with an international organisation.  She had come down to do a presentation on Denmark for the children.  It turned out that there was a host of other visitors also, but that was ok.  The children sang a few songs, they seem to enjoy this a lot these days – you ask them to do one song and then they just keep on going.  Afterwards the children also enjoyed some lollies that some one had brought along.  Here is Tine doing her presentation.

Later on we went for lunch with Tine and Scott another volunteer here in Kabale.  He is from the US and is working for a local secondary school through The American Peace Corps.

These days were good for me, Kathryn had individual meetings with the teaching staff at the school so we headed down at lunch time for those and lucky me got to eat lunch with different families on those days.  It was great to see how happy the children and the matrons were that I joined them.  Even though there was not too much conversation as the children are still only capable of simple phrases that they have learnt at school, both parties were happy with the situation.  One family even sang some songs in English for me, to say I am welcome.

Meetings and Chickens

A weekly meeting at VCCS with all the other leaders within VCCS, in the morning, a meeting with Pastor Edward for Akanyijuka specific things in the afternoon and then a VCCS Board Meeting at night which didn’t end up happening due to some board members not coming.  Meetings are always fun!!  Amongst all that we also had our first day of looking after Favour (Edward and Peace’s daughter) for two days a week.  I say we as Kathryn does all the looking after, but I have all the fun when I am around.

We are having a few problems with the chickens, that is they are not laying as many eggs as they should be, so we are doing a trial run with some in an outside room at our house to see how they go when we know 100% that they are getting all they need.  It seems to be going well as in the first few hours we had two eggs and we were not expecting any for a couple of days after moving them.
