Today I finished a seven week run of employment - I had phoned my previous employer (QR) and they had a position available where I had previously worked and were happy to take me back. This was where the real culture shock hit me.
I had not experienced too much culture shock on our return from Uganda, things are a lot different, but we both knew that, so it was not too bad. But I did have a bit of a panic, only mild though, when I was walking the short distance from the train station to my office building. I got caught in the rush of people heading in my general direction and then I saw someone from my floor at work. Instantly I was overwhelmed with a terrible feeling of ‘Oh no! What am I doing here?’
In the end it was not too bad, as when I got to the office and started talking with people I previously worked with, everything settled down and I seemed to fit in alright. I can tell you though, I am definitely glad that it is over and we are heading back to Uganda. Kathryn and I have booked our tickets and are ready to get back to Kabale, to see the children, our friends there and to get back into action.
