Preparing to go!

January 27, 2009

With work now finished we are focusing solely on getting ready to get back to Uganda.  We have set down visions and goals for the next few years for Akanyijuka and are ready to throw ourselves back into it.

We are still flat out, with us having been there before there is not too much to prepare, except to put our lives back into our suitcases and get onto the plane.  The hardest thing about preparing to go back is having to say goodbye again to friends and family that we have just had enough time to get into a groove with again.

It has been great to catch up with people and we just wanted to say a big thank you to all those that made an effort to help us enjoy our time here.  From everyone at QR, who employed me for seven weeks, to family, to close friends, to all from church.  It was great to know that we have such fantastic family and friends here.  We are more confident and comfortable to go back and spend time in Uganda because of your love and kindness shown.

Getting Ready for Uganda again!

January 23, 2009

Today I finished a seven week run of employment - I had phoned my previous employer (QR) and they had a position available where I had previously worked and were happy to take me back.  This was where the real culture shock hit me.

I had not experienced too much culture shock on our return from Uganda, things are a lot different, but we both knew that, so it was not too bad.  But I did have a bit of a panic, only mild though, when I was walking the short distance from the train station to my office building.  I got caught in the rush of people heading in my general direction and then I saw someone from my floor at work. Instantly I was overwhelmed with a terrible feeling of ‘Oh no! What am I doing here?’

In the end it was not too bad, as when I got to the office and started talking with people I previously worked with, everything settled down and I seemed to fit in alright.  I can tell you though, I am definitely glad that it is over and we are heading back to Uganda.  Kathryn and I have booked our tickets and are ready to get back to Kabale, to see the children, our friends there and to get back into action.
