Tuesday 29th & Wednesday 30th April 2008

April 30, 2008

When we got back to Kabale we were still in relax mode, until we went down to Akanyijuka on Tuesday morning and the reality of us being here by ourselves hit.  It was good when there was lots of us here as things could be spread out and one could take life with a relaxed feel.  But now we are the only ones to do everything, and the only point of call, and the ones to make all the big decisions etc.

We ended up being so busy that we did not have time to buy any groceries to make dinner and had to eat out on Tuesday, and Wednesday almost turned out the same way.  We were busy making arrangements for children to have home visits starting on Thursday.  Also we were confronted with the news that Prossy has decided to leave, again, and move back to Entebbe to live with her husband.  It is good that she is doing this for her relationship, but it also means we have to try and find a new teacher and it also threw our visitation plans into chaos as we made arrangements with her being available.

Bringing it back online!!!

April 28, 2008

Hi guys, sorry for the long delay in posts, I have no excuses to give, but I am hopefully now back to keep you up to date with what is happening.  Let me start by briefly informing what we did in the absence of posts.

We had a weekend in Rwanda with Kathryn’s parents and Erica to visit the genocide memorial and a small taste of the west.  There is a coffee shop there that is just like it has been taken out of Brisbane and placed in Kigali, and Kathryn’s parents bought enough souvenirs that they gave us enough free coffee for our coffee press to keep us awake until Christmas.  Here is a photo of Kathryn and I in the guest house we stayed in:

It was Moses’ birthday:

We had a minor modification done to the car, the repair needed can only be done if we take the car to Kampala, so this is how we keep going:

We took a trip to Bushara Island, by boat of course:

Here are a few shots of our day out at the lake with Akanyijuka:

Then of course the worst part of this month was saying good-bye’s.  First it was to who has become our extended family here in Uganda, Quinton, Erica and Amelia:

Then it was farewell to Kathryn’s parents:

Now we are alone to face Ugandan roads by ourselves, only 4 accidents seen on the trip back from Kampala this time:

And now having the views to ourselves, the first night alone, we had dinner on the patio and had to put up with this view!

April 6, 2008

Today we visited Pastor Frank’s church, Ben Ward was being inducted as a team member/pastor there.  He was leaving the church he was previously at to take up an opportunity with Pastor Frank to be used more.  We always love going there and feeling God’s presence there.  They have a great choir, though the only instruments they have are local drums, and they always sing beautifully.  For dinner we lashed out and went to the fanciest restaurant in town; the White Horse Inn.  The prices range from $5 to $7.50, so we did not feel too bad about lashing out.

April 4, 2008

Kathryn was at work this week and I had the chance to spend time with the in-laws as well as chasing up the usual things that need to be chased up.  We had another birthday this week, Andrew, he turned 6 this week.  I took my camera to get some photos but when I got there discovered that I had forgotten the card for it, so Kathryn took some photos with her mobile phone.  The quality isn’t good but it gives a glimpse of the moment.

We are looking into the land situation more, having purchased one block we are endeavouring to get a few plots around it before the owners find out rich white people are involved and they put the prices up.  All else is going well.
