Fred banging on the drums, that’s what has become our normal Saturday morning sound. It is good to see that he is now struggling to get things that are so much more difficult, the same way he was struggling with the basic things when he first started. It should not be too much longer and I will be able to get him to start trying to play with others at practices, maybe in a month or two. After he left I had my first practice myself in about two weeks. Things have been really busy lately and when I do get a spare day I am not really interested in practicing. It has been a long time also since I did some serious playing on the guitar, I dread to think how I will sound when I have to try and play some serious music again. I do play at church, but it is usually nothing more than the basic chords that are required.
We all headed down to Akanyijuka just before they were having lunch to celebrate Ronus’ birthday. It was a fantastic feeling when we walked in the gate, as Blessed (the only new child that did not really respond to us yet) came running into my arms. Not that we are doing this for the kids to think good of us, but there is no better feeling then having them appreciate what has happened in their lives. Here are a few photos from the day:

And then some of the festivities:

On the way home I got dropped down to PAG church for my other Saturday lesson with Sam. He also is improving and for me it was good to show him a local beat and watch his face light up when he got it and started to play it at speed. There was one lady watching and smiled at him while doing a little dance in her seat, which really lit up his face. I stayed a bit to meet with one of the pastors, and listened to Sam during practice and he is playing well, very basic without many fancy rolls, but he is getting solid, which is what I have been trying to achieve before bringing in the other stuff. All the pastors at the church are excited at how he is improving so my time with him, even though it is not much, is proving to be effective.
Australia verses England in the rugby. We went to a local hotel to watch the quarter final of the world cup on cable TV with the Wards. I was thinking it would be a good chance for some friendly rivalry and a bit of a reminder of home. What a disappointment, a boring match and we lost! Then for dinner which we ordered during half time, which I am sure with all the run around with them not having this or that, they did not start to cook until the game was almost over. Finally when dinner came there was nothing like having an odd tasting vegetable curry, with a side of chicken that was a bigger serving then the vegetable portion, and washing it down with a warm Pepsi. Ahh Africa, you got to love her ways!!!!
