August 18, 2007

Today was the day that Peter McClenaghan (from Australia) was due to arrive in Kabale, but we received a text in the early morning saying that his 7 am bus had left at 6:20 am, so he was letting us know that he had missed his bus and that he will try again tomorrow.  This morning the girls put some finishing touches on some party food, getting ready for Akanyijuka’s first birthday party; today Joan is turning five.  I gave a drum lesson as normal in the morning, then we headed down to Akanyijuka for the party.  Here is a photo of the birthday girl with her mother/matron:

It appeared that Joan was very nerveous and shy, but this could be because she did not know what was really going on, but I was talking to Prossy about the party later and she was saying that Joan talked about it ans was happy about it for days.  We just had some cup cakes and a few meat balls as we did not want to do anything too big or else all the other children will be expecting big things in the future.  We also took some balloons which kept the children occupied for ages.  I put some more photos of the festivities on my flickr site if you want to check them out.

In the afternoon I gave another drum lesson and we had practice as normal, but afterwards we had a life group.  Pastor Edward and Jackson are starting some life groups and training for them and I am helping out run one.  It will eventually be run by Pamela (from Jackson’s church, not our matron) but I am just helping out to get started; after which I will probably do the same with another group.
